BEN Simmons exploded early in the first quarter of the 76ers’ 114-78 win against Detroit on Saturday (AEDT), scoring 11 points in six minutes to go with three assists.
He scored or assisted on each of Philadelphia’s first four possessions as the home side ran riot against a hapless Pistons outfit, racing to a 62-32 lead at halftime.
At the break Simmons had 15 points, three rebounds and seven assists — putting his career-high 31 points in a game within striking range.
Shooting from the field is one of the Aussie’s biggest weaknesses but you don’t need to worry about that if you get yourself all the way to the rim. Simmons has been relentless in attacking the basket this week, showing plenty of aggression as he starred in matches against Phoenix and San Antonio.
But the Sixers were far from a one-man band against Detroit as Simmons’ partner in crime Joel Embiid joined the rookie in stuffing the stat sheet, hitting double figures for points in no time.
At one stage in the second quarter the pair had outscored Detroit comfortably between them.
Simmons has won plenty of admirers in his debut season in the NBA, and his first half freak show will only enhance his reputation
